making bird feeders from pine cones

I want to make a bird feeder as those from pine cones, but cones are not what else can I use?

You know, bird feeders with the huge pine which are slatherd comes with peanut butter and then rolled in bird seed. I want to do something like that, but I do not I have no such large cones and I was wondering if there is anything else I can use?! Thanks a bunch! I looked around the city in the shops and the only ones are all treated or material in which I am sure woulnd't be safe for the bugs! So shopping is not an option and have no relaticks in Georgia!

I have a peanut butter knife and I will in a tree trunk. Then press the bird seed PB. It seems to really attract the woodpeckers Red-bellied and cardinals. The fact is that you can put anything in the majority of PB and cover the seeds from birds will love.
