Wlid bird feeder HELP!?
thanks to all who answered my last question, but I have more details. As I said I lived in a large yard with many trees and a tree Evan whers theres many birds and nests. However, I and the neighbor has the same bird feeder, but I have much more food for the birds hang on the tree, but after him I do not understand why everyone is going to regret that I have much more to them! At first I used to be like Hella ters now single and 7 in his. I have 2 dogs I've heard might scare them off, but their food is in the car park so the park and the past is worse why dosent feed the birds at my bird feeder ANYMORE! ps. I feel sad and the food is not wet or anything its just pure wild bird seed plz help!
I agree with Ms. Bell. Where did you get your seed? Is it a store of wild bird feeding is a big box store and simply called "combination wild bird "or" mixed songbird? "Maybe your neighbor has only the freshest food. That's the advantage of paying a few dollars more birdfood for quality, you get more birds. Check your current mix of seeds for their content. Avoid mixing with Milo, the rape seeds, flax, oats, millet or red. Although red millet is sometimes rather enjoyed when mixed with other seeds, the others in that list are ignored by the birds. Most commercial birdseed mixes are full of "filler" seeds, which is why it is so cost-friendly. As Bell said, Black-oil sunflower is enjoyed by almost 100% of all granivores. Nyjer thistle seed is the second most enjoyed. Especially for the American Goldfinch, House Finch, Pine Siskin, pigeons and some clerks. Sure that their seed is fresh! If sunflower in the mix, are a totally black shell? Or are striped, like you would find in the snack aisle? If you are stripes, looking to buy black oil sunflower. Striped sunflower is much more bitter taste and is enjoyed by fewer birds. The shell is harder nut to crack open the shell versus black oil. Addition of tallow is a great thing if you have the birds will be attracted. If you have Carbonero, Crows, Jays, Nuthatches or Bushtits, some diners would very happy in your feed and tallow. I would recommend visiting a local grocery store and checking their selection. Sebo peanut butter, berries, fruit butter, or tallow insects are all great choices. Make sure there is a fairly high fat content, or have a greater chance to contain unwanted filler therefore be ignored for their birds. A source of moving water is like a big neon sign for their local birds to visit your garden. BIRDBATHS can be a great addition to your landscape. However water is not going to interest the birds. You need moving water to be truly successful. Buy a water wiggler or a lord / drip system. If the birdbath is in a branch, hanging a gallon jug and drill a hole at the top and one on the lid and let it drip into the water constant. This should last a day. This also keep mosquitoes from laying eggs in water, because it can only do so when the water is stagnant. dump and change the water every morning. If you want to buy a water fountain birds, but you're feeling creative, you could just use a few terra cotta planting pots, 3 sizes in ascending order, stacked upon each other (as a snowman). Get a large platter, water-catching terracotta (which go under the pots to keep the excess water). Voila! Birdbath. Use some sealant to keep the pots in place. I recommend using a mixture that is 90% sunflower oil 10% Black and white millet. Other mixtures that included peanuts and fruits nuts are others who enjoy most of poultry. Good luck!
