Why did the birds die in my backyard?
I love the sound of birds, from early morning until sunset. I feed the birds of the neighborhood by putting a lot of bird seed on the ground and in my bird feeder hanging from a branch. Well in the last week, I dead birds found 3 .- They resemble the Orioles (small birds chirp loudly). I buried in my yard and started a bird cemetery without the markings. I have a bath clean bird that I can change the water every day. Just do not understand why they are dying in my garden. Of course, every bird seed attracts other types birds such as pigeons, black birds and yes, even squirrels. I want to keep feeding them, but what is causing them to die? Last year, only lost (1) of the birds.
If your yard is a paradise for birds, it is likely to come when they are elderly or infirm. It is not uncommon to have one or two die one year. Three die in a week, I would suspect some type of poison that may have gotten into. If you find any more dead birds, with rubber gloves, lift, put it in a plastic bag and place in freezer. Then call the County Health Department to come get the bird and make an autopsy to determine cause death. Do any of your neighbors complained about the birds? I'm not saying it, but people have been known to poison food for wildlife that think they are a nuisance. (Hard-ogres of heart!) This is against the law, certainly.
